The Vikings have been attempting to pillage Europe but they keep finding the settlements empty. Cryptograf (Pierre Palmade) as advisor to chieftain Timandahaf (Marc Alfos) explains that the towns are abandoned because 'fear gives the people wings'. Timandahaf thinks he means that cowardice makes the villagers able to fly. Believing that the 'Champion of Fear' is in Gaul, Timandahaf orders his men to find him so the Vikings can learn from him to be afraid and therefore invincible. They set out accompanied by the chief’s daughter Abba (Sara Forestier) and Cryptograf's stupid son Olaf (Michel Vigné). At the same time in a small Gaulish village Vitalstatistix (Vincent Grass) greets the arrival of his nephew Justforkix (Lorant Deutsch) from Parisium. He has come to train with Asterix (Roger Carel) and Obelix (Jacques Frantz) to be a warrior but more unlikely material has seldom been seen. In addition to being totally involved in dancing, nightlife and girls Justforkix is a vegetarian and a coward. Olaf believes Jusforkix is the Champion and kidnaps him. Asterix and Obelix set out for Iceland to rescue Justforkix only to discover that he has fallen in love with Abba and doesn't want to leave.
