The Fourth Protocol, based on the best-selling novel by Frederick Forsyth, is a Cold War thriller set in the UK. KGB agent, Major Valeri Petrofsky (Pierce Brosnan) is despatched to Britain to set off an atomic bomb near an American military complex during the run-up to a General Election. The Soviet spy masters hope this will drive the British people into electing a Labour Government and cause a rift in the special relationship with the Americans and in the NATO ranks. John Preston (Michael Caine) is the rebellious secret agent tracking the couriers who are sneaking bomb components into Britain. But his efforts are hampered when he falls out with his superiors.
