A terrible fire rages in the nearby forest of a small California town, owing to stupidity and ineptitude of town officials and citizens. The young female fire chief named Darcy (Janet Gunn) is at a disadvantage because of the insistence of the Mayor (Dean Stockwell) to keep the tourist season alive, despite fire hazards. In addition, the chief’s teenage daughter Kylie (Greta Danielle Newgren) and friends playing with fireworks add to the possibilities of a conflagration. One of the few heroic figures to help fight the impending blaze is Jake Wheeler (Jeff Fahey) whose helicopter flying skills may save the day, but chances are the local dam may have to be demolished in order to inundate the woods to stop the forest fire.
